Bangalore, Nov 22: The State Cabinet on Thursday decided to release Rs 61.16 crore for payment of salaries and arrears for 5795 guest lecturers appointed in 362 government and aided first grade colleges.
Briefing presspersons after a Cabinet meeting on Thursady, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said the amount would be utilised for payment of salary as well as arrears to guest lecturers.
The nearly 6,000 guest lecturers had not been paid their salary for the last eight months since April 2013.
The salary of lecturers holding post-graduation degree has been fixed
at Rs 8,000 and those holding M.Phil and cleared national entrance examination at Rs 10,000 a month.
A sum of Rs 61.16 crore would be adequate enough to pay salary up to February 2014, he said.
A decision has been taken to grant 20 acres to set up a hi-tech sheep slaughter house in Sira taluk in Tumkur district.
He also said the State Cabinet decided to establish a Sheep Development Corporation to ensure supply of quality mutton to the people.
The State Cabinet decided to grant 9.16 hectares (25 acres) to the Indian Institute of Horticulture Research at Sangapura village, near Hirehalli, in Tumkur while 84.1 acres would be given to University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, at Nandigrama in Chikballapur, for development of a new variety of seeds, the minister said.
With the increase in the number of agricultural universities, a decision was taken to reduce the number of members in the Board of Management from 23 to 12 in all f agricultural universities in the State.
A decision has been taken to appoint 34 sub-inspectors to the Criminal Investigation Department and only candidates holding law degree and degree in computer applications are eligible to apply.
Recruitment would be made after amending the cadre and recruitment rules, Jayachandra said.
A sum of Rs 11 crore has been sanctioned for B-Track (Bangalore traffic) and Rs 10 crore for widening of a road in Thirthahalli in Shimoga district.
The Cabinet sanctioned an additional Rs 30.25 crore for a drinking water project at Gadag-Betageri, he said.
A decision has been taken to raise Rs 1541.80 crore for construction of houses under the Basava Housing Scheme.
The Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation would take a decision on raising the loan.
Nearly 12 lakh houses were sanctioned during the previous BJP government but houses were not built, he said.
