Meerut, Apr 12: Showing exemplary courage, an 18-year-old student, who had managed to escape from the burning tents of the consumer goods fair in Meerut, went back to save six children struck in the inferno and sustained severe burns.
 
Mohammed Javed, a student of Sarvodaya school, returned home on Sunday after eight months. He went to visit the trade fair at Victoria Park and escaped from the pandal on seeing the fire, witnesses and family members said.

However, after coming out he saw the children stuck in the corner of a pandal and went inside and extricated them to safety tearing open the synthetic cloth. In the process, a burning cloth fell on him and he sustained 70 per cent burn injuries.

He has been admitted to the Sushila Jaswantrai Hospital in Meerut.
