Mangalore, Dec 8: The felicitation programme of the well known Nagaswara artiste and Akashavani “A” grade artist Nagaswara Vidhwan Nagesh A Bappanadu was held here on Saturday December 7 at the SDM College auditorium, Mangalore.

The programme was inaugurated by Vishweshwarateertha Swamiji, Shree Pejawara Mutt, Udupi along with other dignitaries, Kalaimamani Padmashree Dr Kadri Gopalnath, well known Saxophone player, captain Ganesh Karnik, MLC and Dharmadarshi Harikrshna punaroor, president of the felicitation committee.

The felicitation was carried out by Dr M Veerappa Moily, Union minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and his wife Malathi Moily, along with other dignitaries.

Blessing the occasion, Pejawar Swamiji said "art is like the moon and spirituality is like the sun. We require both in our lives; just as the rays of the moon are the reflection of the sunlight in the similar manner art is the reflection of spirituality. Our country has rendered a good platform for art and the youth must maintain this as the country is currently undergoing unwanted changes with the foreign traditions and culture influences."

The Nagaswara art has been given a better portfolio and it is always required especially during religious and auspicious occasions.

Nagesh deserves this recognition and he should be named“Nagaswaresh”, not Nagesh, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Veerappa Moily said "I have a music oriented family background, where my father and grandfather used to play musical instruments as a profession. But since I was unable to learn music, my interest developed in books and poetry and I have also authored several books."

"Be it be any art or any other hobby, one must practice well and be dedicated to achieve success in that particular field. We say that God’s blessings and luck plays a huge role, but that’s just 5%,  the rest of the 95% is our hard work, interest and dedication. We must have the passion to achieve something in that field. We must be a learner till we die and thus achieve something, but never loose interest in what we do," he added.

Addressing the gathering, Kadri Gopalnath said "Nagaswara is a great art and plays a great importance. Mixture of music with lyrics will give a better and beautiful output.  But as the support is quite less, youth are not attracted towards these sorts of music, hence we must pledge our support to maintain and keep up the art alive forever."

After receiving the felicitation, Nagesh A Bappandu thanked all the organizing committee members and the gathering for the wonderful and memorable felicitation.

"I wanted Veerappa Moily to felicitate me and today that dream has come true," he expressed emotionally.
