Mangalore: 15 achievers to be honoured at Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat

Mangalore, Dec 17: As many as 15 achievers from around the state will be honored with Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat Awards at Vidyagiri, Moodbidri on December 22, said Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Trust, addressing a press meet here on Tuesday December 17.

Poet Dr H S Venkatesh Murthy, Dr D K Chowta, Hiremagalur Kannan, Moodnakodu Chinnaswami, T N Seetharam, Fakir Ahmed Katapady, Dr B M Hegde, Jayanth Kaikini, Uma Kulkarni, Pune, Dr Kamala Hampana, Dr P Dayanand Pai, Dr Na Mogasale, Kumble Sundar Rao, organizations Mangalore Basel Mission and Shimoga Karnataka Sangha will be honoured with Nudisiri-Virasat Awards, he said.

The award ceremony will be held on Sunday December 22 at 3:30 pm during the valedictory ceremony of the Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a memento and a citation.

The event will be inaugurated on December 20 by state minister for Kannada and culture Umashri. Dr Vinay Hegde of Nitte University will preside over the event. Convention president Dr B A Vivek Rai, outgoing DC N Prakash, Sarvottham Shetty, president of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, and Raj Kumar, president of Bahrain Kannada Sangha will grace the occasion.

The valedictory address will be delivered by union minister for petroleum and natural gas Dr M Veerappa Moily. Variety of cultural events including music and dance, and three convention sessions and four discussions will be held during the course of the event.

Student-oriented programmes, traditional activities, agricultural exhibitions etc will also be held. Horekanike (donation in kind) and the official inaugural procession will be held prior to the event. Five souvenirs will be released to mark the three-day event, Dr Alva added.

Literatteurs, scholars, writers and poets from all over the state and country will participate in Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat, he added.

Amarnath Shetty, Chengappa AD, Venugopal, Na Damodhar Shetty were present at the press meet.
