Kundapur, Dec 17: A man who used to get drunk every day and beat his wife and her relatives died in a quarrel that erupted on Monday December 16 night. The incident occurred at Kamalashile Elaberu Shalegudde, and following the incident, the decease man's young relative was arrested.

The deceased is identified as Chandra Achar (36), son of the late Hirianna Achar and Parvati, residents of Badabalu Shankatte. His brother-in-law Vishwanath (19) has been arrested.

It is said that Chandra Achar who was married to Jyothi (26), daughter of Elaberu Shalegudde resident Shesha Achar, used to get drunk everyday and fight with his wife and suspect her. His wife and family were fed up with his behavior.

He had given up drinking about three years ago with the involvement of locals and was staying in a hut built near Chona Mane. He stayed there for one-and-a-half years before coming back to stay in his wife’s house at Elaberu. He started drinking once again which led him to quarrel frequently.

He came home drunk on Monday and started beating his wife and the family members. His brother-in-law Vishwanath who tried to stop him was attacked with a light stand. Besides that he tried to stab Vishwanath with a knife. Vishwanath who was injured, swung another knife in self-defence. In the process, the knife hit the back of Chandra Achar's head who got injured and died due to loss of blood.

Chandra and Jyothi have two children Nandish (6) and Preethi (5).

Vishwanath is employed in a garage. The police arrested him on Tuesday.

A case has been registered in Shankarnarayana police station.

Whatever Vishwanath did was in self-defense and in the interest of protecting other family members from the drunkard. May be this incident has averted likely danger that could have be fallen in the life of other family members.

This boy needs counseling and moral support and not severe punishment. Of course, judiciary has to play its own role.

Indian village women are very weak. They are tolerating all kinds cruelties of husband and trying to be with him till the end. They never try to come out from this kind of trouble. If they complained to Police, society, villagers, community etc. they also never solve the problem and they are just convincing or forcing her to continue the married life with him. Finally women will be end her life with suicide. but this is some different case, poor young boy had to go to jail to stop his torture. i pray for him to be released soon without any punishment.
But still why there is no strong women organization in India to stop the torture from husband and his family, moral policing from the jobless youths in the name of culture and religion.

The youth does not look like a killer at all.Fate....
By the way all places have been correctly written in the article....without any English Translation creeping in... Otherwise 'Kamalashile' would have
become 'Lotus Rock' keeping us all guessing.......
