Narendra Modi visits Belgaum, stresses on 'Healthy India'

Belgaum, Dec 19 (PTI): Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today exorted the young medical fraternity to dream to make India a "Healthy India".

Pointing out that social hygiene was as important as personal hygiene, Modi asked the young doctors if we can fulfill Gandhiji's dream of a healthy India.

Noting that there was dearth of doctors and paramedical staff in the country, he stressed on the need for generating more para medical training institutions.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College here, Modi said a "healthy youth is healthy India" and this can come true only with a participation of youth in the medical stream.

The BJP leader said India was once known for education sector as back as 2,800 years ago. For 1,600 years India lead the world in education in universities like Nalanda and Takshashila where students from other countries came to seek education.

"We have to retain our culture and be technically strong like China," he said.

Without naming any political party but apparently aiming at Congress, he said had our initial governments given prime importance to education right since independence, the country would have been globally on top.

Rajya Sabha member and Karnataka Lingayat Education (KLE) Chairman Prabhakar Kore was also present at the function.

Dear Edwin Nazareth., Shankerpura. Udipi: I used to listen to Congi first, no use not even a bit. Now I need a change I want to and will listen to Modi. I have been to Gujrat and there is no lies and FYI In polictics nobody is clean. People call him a FEKU but I don't care, we gave 60 years to congress, no results, no proper governence, no vision, no motivation, no law. IF WE CAN GIVE CONGI 60 YEARS, I FEEL WE SHOULD GIVE MODI 5 YEARS. Then we will decide who is FEKU in real.

Dear Shaik Mohd Rizwan- Request you to please go to Gujarat& see how the state has actually prospered. Its not a middle class state, but more upper middle class. Roads & development including minorities has been taken care of..whereas Congress is using them as only 'vote banks'. Education is important, health is more important. In both aspects, Modi has contributed tremendously to build Gujarat as one of the most prosperous states...The minority cell of the party is doing lot of development work in providing clean water & hygienic toilets to the poor..look at its economic scenario, just google & find out

Congress is suppose to be the corrupt party and BJP prime minister designate promises to offer corruption free administration. Now there is a news that BJP is inducting a former corrupt chief minister back to the party. If BJP is also doing same thing what congress is doing, what we can expect from their new prime minister designate. What makes sense to you ?

Dinesh sir, Already one rally has made INC leader to run for cover. Earlier Siddu and CO were confident about winning 28 seats and now they are talking around 20 seats....after 8 rallies I guess they will talk about single digit. INC internal survey is confident about 16-18 seats now :)

For a change, once Modi did not open his foul mouth to attack PM and Gandhi family, although he indirectly attacked Congress in the field of education. Modi should be aware that after independent India has progressed tremendously in the educational field. Today we are one of the most sought after countries for education both in health and technology. Governments and private educational institutions (mainly missionaries) have established the best colleges and universities. Modi is clever enough to know that there are no takers for his nonsense speeches in Karnataka.

Lobo mamu, whats is the contribution of INC to educational growth in India. All INC leaders ill gotten money is used to establish educational institutions...and converted education into a business. Why India doesn't have any top class institution? why our private or any educational institution is coming under top 200 institutes of the world? INC contribution right?

Don't bring unrelated topics here. I know INC supported don't have any topics to condemn apart from 2002 riots or pub attacks or ...Bcos INC cannot talk about development.
