Mangalore: Rape of minor Dalit girl - Convict gets 10 years in jail

Mangalore, Dec 21: The second additional district and sessions court on Saturday December 21 sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for raping a Dalit girl.

On Friday December 20, Anil, a resident of Kutrupady, Puttur was held guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl twice, in October 2012 and January 2013.

The girl, daughter of coolie workers, was studying in standard 9th.

Judge Uma M G sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 8,000, which is to be given to the victim.

He was sentenced under IPC section 376(1) for 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 3,000 fine, under section 506 for 6 months imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine, under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act for two years and Rs 1,000 fine, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, for 10 years of imprisonment and Rs 5,000 as fine. Among them, the maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment will be considered.

C Venkataramanay Swamy was the public prosecutor.

    Make them work at least 15 hours good work. They can do outside work also by chaining both legs with big chain. Planting trees all rod sides, digging new roads, planting coconuts trees, etc.

    Instead of keeping culprits in jail for around 10 years with food & accommodation free, should be utilized for hard work which generates income. Part of this incomes can be given to the victim/victim families and the remaining to cover jail expenses.

    Rapes in these days have become common and on the increase.Some NGO need to be encouraged to find out the causes and reasons for this negative results inspite of so much coverage in the media.If we don't stop this,it may turn as a biggest cancer in the society beyond our control.Hope the authotities and educational institutins do the needful to control these crimes.Thanq

    10 yrs for raping a minor girl twice ? i would have sent him to Firing Squad just like they do in china.i think the person who posted on this news page a day before was right he said " india is progressing well on rape " implement capital punishment for rape & see changes...
