Karnataka Hindi Prachar Samithi and University College, Mangalore, organized a national seminar on ' The Literary Works of Dr Bhavani Prasad Mishra' on Saturday December 21 at Ravindra Kalabhavana, Hampanakatta.

Dr Bhavani Prasad Mishra (March 29, 1913 - February 20, 1985) was a Hindi poet and author. He was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1972 for his book ‘Buni Hui Rassi’. Some of the notable works of Mishra were ‘Ye Kohare Mere Hain’, ‘Trikaal Sandhyaa’, ‘Tus ki Aag’, ‘Kuchh Neeti Kuchh Rajneeti’, ‘Idaṃ Na Mam’, and ‘Geetfarosh’.

Capt Ganesh Karnik, member of Legislative Council, Karnataka Legislative Council, inaugurated and addressing the gathering said, "It gives me immense pleasure to inaugurate this event and I want to congratulate the organizers for conducting this programme."

Further he added, "This college has got a tremendous history. Many good things have happened here. Hindi is a very beautiful language and the media from the past has been able to bring up Hindi language ahead of everything. We expect everyone to speak Hindi fluently, but we send our children to English medium schools. People are losing their love and interest towards our national language.”

“My request is to translate all the Kannada stories into Hindi language so that everyone can read, learn, and understand the importance of Hindi. The central government has released so much amount of money only for the translation process. The government is trying to help our people and we must try to understand this," he said.

Satyanarayana Mallipattana, principal, University College, Mangalore, presided over the inaugural programme. Chief guest J R Lobo, MLA, guest of honour, and Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Karnataka Sahitya Parishat, were also present.
