New customs form for passengers to India from Jan 1

New customs form for all passengers to India from Jan 1

New Delhi, Dec 22 (PTI): Passengers flying into India will have to fill in a new customs form on their arrival from the new year.

All passengers coming to India will be filling up an 'Indian Customs Declaration Form', which will be different from the detachable perforated strip that is part of the immigration card at the moment.

"There will be a separate form for customs authorities and immigration card from the new year onwards," official sources said.

Also from January 1, Indians will have to fill up immigration form only when they go out. "There will not be any immigration form for Indians returning from abroad," they said.

Authorities have also introduced new fields for declaration of dutiable and prohibited goods.

For the first time, travellers would be asked to specifically declare any prohibited articles, gold jewellery (over free allowance), gold bullion and Indian currency exceeding Rs 7,500 in the new form.

The passengers will have to give details of countries visited in the past six days and mention their passport numbers on the new form, which was not there earlier.

Whereas, old fields like declaration of satellite phone, foreign currency exceeding $5,000 or equivalent, aggregate value of foreign exchange including currency exceeding $10,000 or equivalent, meat, meat products, dairy products, fish or poultry products and seeds, plants, fruits, flowers and other planting material have been retained in the new format.

The passengers will also have to give details of baggage being carried by them in a separate column instead of pieces of hand baggage and checked in baggage separately.

What do our embassy do in other country is nothing and its even going worst in serving people.

If Indian govt want to give hard time for Indians who are returning from abroad then don't even send the people out of the country give them work in own country itself.

People laugh at china by seeing its product and most of them buy it by saying at least for once its ok.

But for once have we people think that China is better because very rarely 90% I can say the Chinese are out of their country but if we see India just 90% of the state population of Kerala is in abroad.

Careful guys just if Keralities returns form all the countries to their native means surely there will be no place in Kerala for them to live.

Now specially Mangloreans be careful maybe they will rush towards Mangalore soon as Kerala boundary is near it will hard to find places for the residence of Mangalore to find place then.Anyway most of keralites have already based.

    Dear readers,

A world is going green with paperless process. In India we are going back to the stone age.

There are some nation immigration check is done just by the scan of the passport. But we Indians regardless of age bar holding kids in arms need to wait in long queues.

None of the forms has copy to be given to the passengers which may even tempered against the passengers. How does it going to help the govt. checking the smuggling?Does declaring the possession avoids 'Red channel' in customs?

A rules are easy to pass. For the passengers it is another hassle. The passenger may need to expect more rush in the future.

If pass a look at the shelves behind immigration officials, there are loads of bundles of forms filled by passengers. The paper may come to several thousands of tons that is being put to such use.

I am sure its only in India that you get to fill such forms. None other country I visited such practice is existing.

Common India - its Digital Era - come out of draconian practices !

There are more un skilled labours working in foreign countries they did not know how to fill the form, they are requesting to other passengers to fill the emigration form. So now this is big burden to them, they are earning for their poor family as well as they are sending T/T for benefit of their mother country. Now this is one type of pressure on them even they did not carries single gram of gold. So my humbly request to the Government of India to make ease to poor laborers otherwise give them same salary job in India to surview their family.

This appears to be a great improvement as the form will be much clearer. Hope there will be a clear indication for persons of Indian Origin who hold foreign passports as to their entitlement and, especially, carrying of Indian currency with them.
