Mangalore: Laugh your way to healthy life - Bondel-Kadri Laughter Club launched

Media Release

Mangalore, Dec 22: J R Lobo, MLA, on Sunday December 22 inaugurated the Bondel-Kadri Laughter Club at Kadri Park by unveiling the banner of the Club to the lusty cheering by scores of participants in the first session.

Speaking on the occasion, Lobo outlined the benefits of laughter and smiling in terms of individual, collective and reciprocal happiness. He said that cities like Bangalore have several laughter clubs functioning in public grounds, parks and gardens. He welcomed the starting of such a Club in Kadri Park and urged people visiting the Park to take advantage of this new facility.

Lobo said that Indians are cheerful people who easily smile, unlike the people of some other countries. He welcomed the initiative of the organisers of the new Club and hoped that a large number of people would take advantage of this new and popular venue for physical exercise and relaxation to cope with the tensions of urban life.

The Club is being promoted and anchored by John B Monteiro, a noted author and journalist in English.

Conducting the function, Mohan Monteiro, the anchor’s son, explained that his father has been in the laughter club mode for the past thirty years, first in Mumbai and then in Mangalore, with the launching of Bondel Laughter Club in 2002 – which still survives and is being merged with the new club. The Bondel-Kadri Laughter Club is to take advantage of the hundreds of footfalls in Kadri Garden.

Mohan said that though the inaugural session was held at 7.30 am to catch the daylight, the daily sessions would start at 6.30 am and would last 20 minutes.

    Congratulations -excellent job.
But look at the pity and tragedy of the so called PARK.
cant the city or municipality engage some horticulture co or Soans nursery to develop into a model state of the art park with soft and hard landscaping .
In dubai in the desert you find more plants and flowers than in india -how and why?
Please engage the Landscaping cos or SOANS nursery or the horticulture co to develop Kadri park into a full fledged park along with walking path-cycling- YOGAS jogging -exercise etc.

    Laughter can be classified too....
That which is deep throated and shakes the 'life' out of you is the healthiest!
Laughter Club's in B'lore have a knack of slaughtering your sleep! Some have members who bleat like sheep which have separated from the herd!I have wept hearing them!Wonder which nerves and muscles tighten
    when you laugh artificially.
Hope everybody benefits here though. How? Well...Somehow...
If a 'Laughter Club' has survived for more than 30 years in any region, me thinks that the atmosphere around there isn't all that o.k. In B'bay such clubs usually thrive because everything there is artificial.
    Lobaam being in politics however
you must master the art of both pure and artificial laughter! This craft is a must for you to survive.....Hee Hee.....Smile please..Haavn Sath Saangthaa !

These days people are so busy, they have forgotten to laugh or smile. This is the opportunity to Kadri park visitors early morning to laugh. A good laugh will ease the throat, lungs etc. Thank you Mr.Monteiro.

"A merry heart doeth good like medicine." The Bible, the Book of Proverbs.

"We are just about as happy as we make up our mind to be." Abraham Lincoln
◾ Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
◾ Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
◾ Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
◾ Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
