Mangalore, Dec 23: A casual glance around the city and you know it instantly - it's Christmas time and the spirit and joy of the season is in the air. You can feel its quiet charm, feel the peace within, and sink happily in the warmth despite the chill of the December night.

Hectic preparations are on as people rush about for last-minute shopping. Shops selling Christmas decor and trinkets witness busy scenes as people bustle about to pick their favourite items to adorn their Christmas trees and cribs. The decors are plenty and the range of choice leaves you baffled.

Speaking of cribs, this is one specialty that evokes much enthusiasm among many, and creative minds work at their best even as admirers marvel at the innovative ways cribs are made these days. Not in houses, cribs are seen attracting much attention even in malls and shops. Crib making competitions are also a big draw come Christmas season.

It is also a time for family reunions, when sons and daughters return from faraway lands to their native towns to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with their parents and other loved ones. The atmosphere abounds with a feeling of togetherness, and the aroma of Chrismas delicacies, the traditional Kuswar, only adds to the festivities. Santa Claus is a familiar sight at this time of the year, merrily laughing and spreading love and cheer, especially among children.

The festival of joy, sharing and giving is here; let this Christmas bring peace and happiness to all.

Here's a unique poem by daijiworld reader Joseph F Gonsalves that truly encapsulates the spirit of Christmas. What makes it unique is that it contains all the 26 letters of the alphabet in 26 lines.

Jesus Christ.

Worlds Light.

Hearts Delight.

Christmas Rite.

Incarnation First.

Stars on sky Bright.

Zest in Fasts is Must.

Quest for Bible to Cite.

Under nil sins evil Blight.

Divinely mass in the Night.

Angels sing in apparel White.

Never keep sins even a Slight.

Followers of Christ are in Flight.

Gifts to the poor and needy Must.

Require will to God submit up-Right.

Living righteously and lawfully is Best.

Purify, clean and sanctify hearts Alight.

King Jesus Almighty in flesh in His Might.

Bethlehem oldest city what a greatest Site.

Visited Jesus Christ three Kings were Erudite.

Our Prince of Peace cometh, there is no Fight.

X-mass gifts to children discounts in the Freight.

Yoke is light, Holy, Holy, Holy the Lord Omniscient.

Triumphant Jesus second entry, evil tremble in Fort.

Every tongue will confess, you are Lord in ones Heart.

Mighty God, King of kings and Lord of lords Jesus Christ.

Makes one nostalgic, great pics and poem thanks and wish all DW readers a Merry Xmas!!

But, for the AAM middle class AADMI (who is on the verge of getting in the BPL category) every year the uncontrollable rise in inflation makes them very difficult to survive, forget celebrating!!

    I believe in angels
    The kind that heaven sends
    And I'm surrounded every day
    By angels I call friends.
    God gave me someone special
    When He gave me
A special friend like you all
    Have a Blessed Christmas!

Dear Joseph, we had lot of pyramids from you in the past, but this one is the ultimate.
