Karkala: Veerappa Moily calls for nationwide health project

Karkala, Dec 25: “The central government has contributed Rs 961.92 crore and the state government has contributed Rs 488 crore in the national rural health project implemented by the central government during the last two years. Only a few people are taking advantage of projects by the state government. Such projects are not beneficial for chronic illnesses. If a nationwide project is implemented, everybody in the country will be able to make use of it”, said M Veerappa Moily, union minister of Petroleum, natural gas and environment.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the renovated building of Karkala taluk government hospital with an amount of Rs 98 lacs released by the ONGC under social security commitment. He said that he has undertaken the work due to his attachment to his home town and assured that he will work harder to develop the town.

MP Jayaprakash Hegde spoke expressing his happiness towards the development work and said that projects will materialize only due to support and not criticism.

Former MP H Gopal Bhandary spoke and said that a person should never forget his home town. There is an attachment between undivided Dakshina Kannada district and Karkala government hospital which is why union minister Veerappa Moily has held the programme at the hospital, he said.

Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake lauded the part played by minister Moily for implementing programmes under the social security commitment in Kasargod and Dakshina Kannada district.

While MLA Sunil Kumar spoke presiding over the programme urging the government for a dialysis unit at the hospital, minister Veerappa Moily who was present at the dais said that he too is desirous of such a unit.

M N Rajendra Kumar, president of SCDCC bank, Rehmat Shaikh, president of Karkala Municipal council, Dr Anand Naik, Dr Ramachandra Bayari etc were present. Shubha and Saritha led prayers. Taluk government hospital chief medical officer Dr Jnanesh Kamath welcomed. Shubhada Rao conducted the programme.

Harsha Moily, son of union minister Veerappa Moily had attended the programme raising eyebrows in political circles. His name is heard in Mangalore Lok Sabha election candidates list.

Minister Moily has fulfilled his earlier promise to release grants. He has released a grant of Rs 25 lacs from BHL for Miyar Buffalo race.
