Locals rescue mother and child from drowning at Malpe

Udupi, Dec 26: In a brave effort, the locals here rescued a woman and her child from drowning at Malpe beach here on Wednesday December 25.

Shilpa (32), wife of rural Hosakote Soolibele resident Ananda Kumar had come to the beach with her three children after visiting Sri Krishna Math. Her children Devika (12), Aishwarya(10) and Surya Yadav were playing in the water.

Surya Yadav was suddenly pulled in by the currents deeper into the waters. The mother who saw it jumped into the sea to save him, and both of them were washed away. The locals there immediately rushed to their rescue and saved both the mother and her son and took them to hospital.

Shilpa was admitted to the ICU of Ajjarkad government hospital and Surya Yadav to an ICU of a private hospital. Malpe police have said that both of them are recovering.
