Mangalore, Dec 26:
A six-day orchid exhibition organized by Alia Orchid Care, Anegundi, Bejai, began here on Thursday December 26.

Fr Victor Machado, parish priest of Bejai Church, inaugurated the exhibition.

Guest of honour Fr Peter Cyprian D'Souza, superior, St Anne's Friary, said, "Spending time around all these flowers makes one happy and forget whatever troubles there are in the mind."

He praised Queeni Lasrado, proprietor of Alia Orchid Care for organizing the exhibition.

Fr Machado said, "All these flowers are going to shower joy and happiness on everyone. The gardens are a beautiful place for Mangloreans and visitors to enjoy. So I think it is right that we make a special effort to preserve this as part of our heritage and spread awareness on the importance of these plants."

Queeni Lasrado, addressing the gathering, said, "These are orchids from our Western Ghats and North East that I have collected. This is an exclusive opportunity for everyone to know more about orchids. There are 1,200 orchids here to provide a visual treat."

She thanked her husband Clifford Lasrado for his support at all times.

The exhibition is open till December 31.
