Mangalore: Sports meet for govt employees kicks off

Mangalore, Dec 27: Dakshina Kannada district-level sports meet and cultural competition organized for government employees got off to a colourful start at Mangala Stadium here on Friday December 27.

The event has been jointly organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, district youth services and sports department, and district government employees' association.

Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo hoisted the event flag.

Addressing the gathering, J R Lobo said, "I am happy to see government employees take part in athletics though very few have come. Sports meet should be organised on Sundays so that everyone can take part. Moreover, it is important for your children to show interest towards sports. We are all government employees and our duty is to help people; our commitment towards duty should continue forever."

A B Ibrahim, newly appointed deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district inaugurated the event and said, "It is always good to be in Mangalore and all the athletes gathered here must showcase your talent."

George Pinto, president of district government employees' association welcomed the chief guests.
