Tamil actress Ranjitha takes sacred vows, becomes 'Ma Anandamayi'

Bangalore, Dec 27: In a surprising move, Tamil actress Ranjitha (38) on Friday December 27 took vows to become a hermitess (Sanyasini) at Nityananda ashram, during a programme to celebrate the birthday of Swamy Nityananda.  It has been customary at the ashram to administer oaths to new disciples on the birthday of Swamy Nityananda.

Ranjitha changed her name to ‘Ma Anandamayi’ after taking the vows. 

She was the disciple of Swamy Nityananda for the last four years and was in the news for her alleged involvement in the sex video involving her and Swamy Nityananda. The video was later declared as morphed.

She participated in several religious programmes at the ashram even after the release of the video. 

Ranjitha will be assigned the responsibility of a foreign branch of the ashram, it is learnt. She will have to spend the remaining part of her life at the ashram wearing saffron robes.

Basava Geetha Matha of Naganooru Math said that Ranjitha does not deserve to be a Sanyasini. "Becoming a Sanyasini is by itself an achievement, and Ranjitha, who is used to luxurious living cannot become a Sanyasini overnight. She will have to do meditation and indulge in religious activities," he said. He also questioned whether the atmosphere at the ashram is conducive for such selfless living.
