Bantwal, Dec 28: In a major breakthrough in the tragic suicide case of a woman and her two children who jumped off the Netravati bridge in June this year, the Bantwal police have succeeded in arresting her husband in Delhi.

Mumtaz (25) along with her two kids Fathima Naishana (8) and Khatija Naifa (5) had jumped off the Netravati bridge on June 19 this year, reportedly due to family problems and harassment by husband. Ullal police had registered a case and later handed it over to Bantwal police.

Her husband Anwar Sadiq, a resident of B Mooda was arrested by the police at Delhi airport. He was brought to Bantwal police station on Friday December 27.

As per a complaint filed by Mumtaz's father, Anwar used to constantly harass Mumtaz mentally and physically. "Anwar had even told her that he wanted neither her nor the children, and that she should take them away and die somewhere," the complaint stated.

Anwar was employeed in Saudi Arabia. On December 18, when he landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was caught by the Delhi police who had kept a lookout for him. He was then handed over to Bantwal police.

Anwar was produced in court on Friday evening and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.

Mumtaz hailed from Hidayatnagar in Kallapu near Thokkottu and was staying at her husband's house in B C Road.

Well, while my sympathy goes to the family, why the lady took such a drastic step. The quarrel between husband and wife is very common in most of the families, and suicide is not an answer.

I think, the guy should not be booked for his wife's stupidity, rather a case of harassment could probably be applied.

its sad and innocent young souls too. but when someone commits suicide its entirely their business . their family members should not be blamed for that. the woman healthy and fit , she could have taken care of her and children , why its the onus only on husband to earn and feed. Domestic harassment cases like 498a is often misused , i hope this poor guy gets the bail soon.

His destination is Bantwal. There are several airports close-by - I wonder why he decided to land in Delhi ? Surely he had a feeling that his father-in-law may have filed a case which may make his passage through Mangalore difficult.

Such a feather-brained he is - doesn't he know that an arrest warrant applies to entire India ? Moreover, it took him six months (to come to India) from the death of his wife/children ?

Agree with you...So many reasons we may find here about his guilt.

He came back home after almost 6 six months from the time of the tragedy.
Instead of land in Mangalore,he has chosen Delhi thought that can escape safely.
No clarification on behalf of him.

After proper investigation,if he found to be fully responsible to their death, better apply 'HALLI MADDU' throw him to the same river during rainy season.
