Many injured as communal tension flares up in Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur, Dec 29 (DHNS): Scores of people and security personnel were injured when the police resorted to caning to defuse a communal flare-up in the town on Saturday.

Tempers ran high after members of a community found the carcass of an animal at the entrance of their place of worship in the morning.

Soon, they gathered in large numbers and staged a protest. Some of them set tyres on fire on M G Road and called for a shutdown, saying their religious sentiments had been hurt.

A mob went around forcing the closure of shops on M G Road and I G Road. Enraged, another group of people launched a protest on the other end of M G Road. The situation turned tense and the district administration enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, asking the protesters to disperse. However, the appeal went unheeded and the two groups came to blows.

The police resorted to caning to disperse the protesters on M G Road. Several citizens and policemen were injured in the melee. The town witnessed an undeclared bandh with schools and colleges, commercial establishments and cinemas pulling down their shutters.

Additional police forces and platoons of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed on the main streets of the town. Security at places of worship has also been beefed up.

Prathap Reddy, Inspector General of Police (Western Range), Hassan Superintendent of Police Ravi Channannanavar and other senior police officers are camping at Chikmagalur. More police forces have been summoned from the neighbouring districts to maintain law and order.

Deputy Commissioner B S Shekharappa said prohibitory orders would be in force till Sunday midnight.

Home Minister K J George said Section 144 had to be imposed. However, the situation is well under control, he added.

The SPs of Hassan and Udupi were also rushed to Chikmagalur town to help the local police to monitor the situation, he added.

The following are the time tested methods to flare up tensions. Each time it is done, it works wonders.
    1. Like above, leaving dead animal in the doorstep of religious place. Leave it in front of any religious place it works well. Infact even a body part of an animal would suffice and it would still work.
    2. Garlanding Gandhi, Ambedkar and popular political figures' statue with used chappals.
    3. Simple stone pelting on religious places
    4. Physical assault near places of worship.
A layman like me can put together this list. I am sure, police will be able to do a much better job. Why not hand such list to each religious institution and inform them to contact police if any one such instance occurs?
Looks like somebody has made a detailed analysis of mood in town and hence are taking some measures to change the mood to thier favor. I am sure these vested interests would want some innocent people being arrested and even better assaulted in custody and come elections they would have the required results.
The sad part of the whole story is aam aadmi falls for this devious plot every time.

Sad indeed. In this modern era its sad that people are still fighting over communal issues, As India is known for its tolerance from time immemorial we must fight against these criminal senseless elements in our society. Let truth and tolerance prevail. When I had a problem in my life its my Muslim and Christian friends who saved me! I think we must live as human beings not

    Dear readers,

What a fuss in this.Lets a brother of Hindu and Muslims clean the carcass together whenever it is abused and discourage hate mongers.

We need to learn from the past mistakes from Mysore,Hyderabad and now Trivandrum.Let Almighty shame the culprits to humiliation.

As election for 2014 Lok Sabha is nearing communal cards are again being played. When Delhi can see change why not Kannadigas kick the corrupt and communal?

I believe religious heads need to voice together and help maintain the unity.

    For Justice, Abudhabi

Yes. Now AAP is THE only answer. Let them come to power. Rule the first 5 years or more without corruption. Catch all these BJP Dongis in their first term itself and if any corrupt from Congress\JDS too and put them all in one high walled open ground, for them to bludgeon each other to put an end to themselves. Confiscate all their wealth which was usurped from the State and make use of it for development of the State.

During that time, we the people can have a breather from all these wrangling for power using religion\communalism to separate people.

    Therefore, people vote only for
AAP, support them well for them to take on these morons of BJP\Congress and other parties.

From now on, talk only of AAP as "THE POLITICAL PARTY"

When religion climbs on the person all these things will arise. We should respect each others faith and should not question what they believe.

Its not the party which may make any difference for us. Our minds are divided. That should unite first. Its easy to rule and exploit the divided minds, that's what the politicians are doing. All are voting assuming THIS party will favor their caste or party which favors their caste is best for the country, that is the problem. Today I advocate to vote BJP not because they will do something good for our community. I vote BJP only because of the Insecurity I am feeling with Congress's vote bank politics assuming utill which level it will go. I do not have any problems with the fellow citizens of any community or creed in my area. Politicians reap their profits from these divisions. Whether its congress or BJP, No party in India really wants to remove, BD, DYFI,SRS, SS, MNS, IM,PFI,MLM,Rama sena, bheema sena, dhooma sena, youva sena, Ajjer Sena conversion missions, new lifes ..etc, from the society which are causing social problems. Only if all these are there, then only they can divide the society and rule. If we don't come out of this, there is no much hope with the generation yet to come.
