Jet Airways to introduce Mangalore - Delhi flight from January 15

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Dec 29: Here's some good news for frequent travellers to Delhi from the city. Jet Airways will be introducing daily flight to the national capital from Mangalore from January 15, 2014. The flight will have a stopover in Bangalore.

Sources said that bookings have already started for the new flight.

Jet Airways flight 9W2815 will take off at 11.05 am from New Delhi and reach Bangalore at 1.55 pm. Jet Konnect will then operate the same flight, which will leave from Bangalore at 2.40 pm and land in Mangalore at 3.40 pm.

Jet Airways flight 9W816 will take off from Mangalore at 4.15 pm and arrive in Bangalore at 5.15 pm, and from there it will depart at 5.55 pm and reach Delhi at 8.45 pm.

The entire journey will take about four-and-a-half hours and passengers will not have to change flights. The flights will operate on a daily basis, sources said.

With this, a long-standing demand of the locals for air connectivity to the national capital is fulfilled. It may be recalled that Air India had in 2010 introduced a direct flight to Delhi from Mangalore, but it was withdrawn in a short time due to various reasons including poor response. Presently, one has to either opt for the 2-day train journey or catch connecting flights from Bangalore, Mumbai or other cities in order to reach Delhi.

This was the right time to introduce direct Delhi-Mangalore flight. Because for 2014 Lok sabha Election our great MPs will frequently fly between Dilli and Mangalapuram to oversee election preparations.
( Dont ever mention to them about the 'Curse' called Shiradi ghat and spoil their mood during election time).

I don’t see it Practical. Its taking too long.

Flight Mangalore –Mumbai – Delhi takes lesser time. We only need to change a flight, Baggage can be collected at Delhi

    Prasad, Dubai,

If you read carefully, also this flight you need to change the planes from Jet Airways to Jet Connect in Bangalore. so,there is no change between this and going via Mumbai.

    Mr vnayak,
As you said, you should read the article carefully.'The entire journey will take about four-and-a-half hours and passengers will not have to change flights.' So there is a difference between this route and via Mumbai routes.

This isn't changing aircrafts. The same aircraft will be used , just that Jet will change the service to a Jet Konnect for that leg of the journey

One cannot operate a routine flight from Mlore to Jed. During Hajj its only possible because they have needed passengers on board.
Travelling a distance of 4000 above miles you will need 777/747 and they carry passengers above 300. Where will you find passengers of that number from Mlore.?
Even when you combine Kerala passengers it will be hard to match.

The current arrangement ( rout &time consumption) is better than

Either opting for the 2-day train journey or catch connecting flights from Bangalore, Mumbai or other cities in order to reach Delhi.

Alternative choice is high Airfare (to cover the cost) which is not in favor of the passengers.

Jet Airways service is just awesome. Got an opportunity to fly Manglore-Dubai recently and really there is a big difference between Air India and Jet. This is with regards to the comfort/service. Jet should add flights to all the gulf countries too. All the best.

Direct flight is not feasible as stated above. Hence this is very good option since passengers do not have to change flight. Via Mumbai or Pune would saved have 20-30 minutes max.

Since Delhi is located towards north of Mangalore, this flight should have been via Pune or Ahmedabad, which would have been less time consuming.

So, you need to spend almost 5 hours on the plane for a domestic travel to reach between two airports, IXE and Delhi, and the time consumed is more than that of flying between Far Eastern countries and India.

We need direct flying between two airports.
