Kasargod: Woman killed in accident, shocked father-in-law ends life

Kasargod, Dec 29: A young woman died in an accident between a car and a bike that occurred at Periyattadka on Kasargod-Kanangad national highway.

Sowmya (24), wife of Kumble Anantapura Naikapu resident Shinobi is the deceased.

In more tragedy for the family, her father-in-law Joseph alias Kunhattan (65) committed suicide by hanging on December 26 morning, unable to bear the death of his daughter-in-law.

The accident occurred when Sowmya was travelling to her home town with her husband from Anantapura to Vellarikundu. The car is said to have hit the bike from behind throwing Sowmya to the road. She was seriously injured on the head and could not be saved despite rushing her to the hospital.

Shinu, her husband escaped with minor injuries. They were married a year ago. Shinobi’s father was deeply shocked after the accident and had gone back after seeing Sowmya's body. His body was found hanging from a tree near their house in the morning on December 26.

Sowmya was the daughter of Joy-Thangamma couple of Vellarikundu. A pall of gloom has descended over the family.
