Chaos at Mulky as protestors gherao Abhaychandra Jain, attempted assault alleged

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (EP)

Mangalore, Dec 31: Chaos prevailed at Mulky here on Monday December 30 as a protest was held to decry the apathy of the local panchayat and elected representatives towards Charantipete road which is filled with potholes.

Minister Abhaychandra Jain, who was surrounded by the protesters reportedly got into an altercation with an auto driver and allegedly tried to assault him.

The road is said to be the main road connecting Moodbidri and Kinnigoli and those going to Kateel temple also have to use this road. It also joins national highway 66 and it is also the route to government hospital and Karnad market.

Several auto, taxi and tempo drivers and members of local groups supported the protest.

When the protesters demanded that the minister come to the spot and accept their appeal, the minister reportedly avoided them by taking an inner road to the panchayat office where he had to attend a programme. This angered the protesters,  who confronted at Mulky Billava Sangha premises.

The protesters gheraoed Jain, but Mulky panchayat president Shashikant Shetty, block president Sadashiva Salian and others objected to it. Some shouted slogans in support of him and others against him. The minister who got annoyed allegedly moved towards an auto driver and tried to hit him, but his supporters stopped him from doing any harm. Madhu Acharya, Harish Putran and Harsharaj Shetty pacified the minister and sent him in his car.

Meanwhile, Congress activists told the protestors to went their ire on MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, which angered the BJP party workers, and a Congress-BJP fight was about to erupt when the police intervened and neutralized the situation.

Bipin Prasad, president of Mulky rickshaw owners' union, decried the minister’s attempted assault on the rickshaw driver and said that further course of action will be decided in their next meeting. The rickshaw drivers decided to obesrve a day-long bandh in protes on Tuesday December 31.

JD(S) leader Kishore Shetty Deppaniguthu said the gherao against the minister and shouting of slogans against him was not fair. He said that the attitude of some of the Congress activists had caused the furore.

Sunil Alva of Mulky Citizens' Forum, BJP’s Umesh Manampady and Navin Bappanadu condemned the action of the minister.

Mr Abhay Chandra is a very cool guy.
The Rickshaw driver may have provoked him with some bad words and Abachandra must have lost his temper. This is a very unfortunate incident.

As a Minister he should not have met protesting mob on a street.
He still travels with the general public in a night bus from Bangalore to Moodbdri.

    @ dinesh kundapur,
I didn’t tell what Mr. Jain did is right (I wrote his weakness of losing temper in my earlier comment). Mr. Jain has been always kind of citizens of this constituency, but his straightforward nature & toughness towards authorities are misunderstood.

Please do not comment on Moodbidri people (if you don’t know about them), saying ‘they voted Mr. Jain out of fear’. People of Moodbidri are known for their peaceful nature & hardly you can hear any communal tensions in this area. This is because of Mr. Jain’s tolerance towards every community & brotherhood nature of people here and most importantly “No BJP prominence in this part of district”

Also, you peoples intentions are criticized universally !!! You people can go to any extent to spoil the Congressman's name. Why Mr. Jain has been stopped in an improper way?, why not useless MP of this constituency questioned (who is carrying Kateel along with his name)?

I did not comment on Moodabidri people. I have no rights to comment on Moodabidri people. But I have rights to comment on ROWDYISM of my state minister. He is a big Goonda, no doubt about it.

The road does not come under Nalin's scope. It is not National Highway. Stop pointing finger towards others for your in-capabilities. This shows how much responsibility you take for the people.

I being a resident of mulki know how the conditions of roads in and around Mulki. It's the primary duty of all elected representatives from Panchayath, Legislature And Parliament to take note of the constituencies and provide better amenities to the people.

Secondly did anyone noticed the attitude of the staff at the panchayat? We hear that rampant corruption is in it. Why can't the general public wake up and take note of this..... Are you all waiting for Arvind Kejriwal to come and help?....

    Here it is...
I know Mr. Abhayachandra personally. He is nice, diplomatic & gentleman, but his weakness is, he loses temper soon (same like your Yeddi). Opposition party leaders are well aware of Mr. Jain's nature, so undoubtedly, they have plotted this drama.
I am expecting this kind of 'poli-tricks' against Mr. Jain, in future too. So advise to Mr. Jain, not to loose his cool & ignore opposition party and concentrate on development work.

He came from a very humble beginning and he has maintained that even after becoming a Minister in the current Government. It is unfair to call him that he attacked the road users. He is a honest Minister and the development of Moodbidri area as compared to other constituencies speaks of his works. What rights he has to assault people? If a minister can do this kind of goondagiri, what can you expect from common people? He should be a role model for people. There is a way to address to express the anger, no one should act like this.

By the way, can you list 1 single achievement of him after becoming Minister? Not at all, he is a dumb minister. Let him learn something from his own cabinet colleague UT Khader.

By seeing pics it looks like people are acting like goondas. There is a way to behave in public, more like a civilized person

Its time the AAM AADMI wakes up from his sleep and starts questioning the representatives. Law & Order, Infirastructure in Coastal Karnataka has gone from Bad to worse. Our MP - Mr Katil hadn't uttered a word in parliament, Our MLA's seem to be inefficient and aren't discharging their duties well. In 2014 we must have an AAP candidate from Mangalore & Udupi.

The minister who got annoyed allegedly moved towards an auto driver and tried to hit him!!!! Which shows what his culture is and which Party he belongs to? Instead of taking responsibility for repairing road, he attacks the road users????

What did driver tell? Tell us if you know.

Don't compare an auto driver with a KARNATAKA STATE MINISTER. There is a huge gap between them.

Why your minister took an alternative route? Is this not the avoiding taking responsibility?

Let him learn some attitude first. Former CM DVS was doing a Janata Darshana in Bangalore in 2012. A man went ire on the Chief Minister and started scolding him. DVS told that man to cool down and express his problem. This is how RESPONSIBLE, CULTURED people should behave. It was a matter of seconds for DVS to order police force to beat him up and take him away. But he did not do that.

Whatever he said but I hope that you and Jain Saab can understand the difference between MLA & Rickshaw Driver!!!! Moreover since he is elected by our people means he has to listen to them whether they abuse him or praise him. If you can’t digest the both then better you become “Digambara”. Almost all Taxi and Rickshaw Drivers are angry since they can’t increase the fare according to recent fuel hikes moreover they have to bear the brunt because of more vehicular wear and tear due to very bad road condition now

This is the Right Time to All corrupt Political Parties and its Leaders to take a Lesson from AAP (not from MMS). If you are arrogant and indifferent to the general public, you will be no where in the next election. So Please work for the Betterment of General Public as their sewak and not as their Boss.

Minister's dadagiri.... In earlier Congress govt. in the state, Mr. Shivakumar had come to M'lore, & had participated in the City Corporation discussion representing the State, & when someone raised their protest voice, he folded his sleeves & started grumbling 'eenu dadagiriya..roudismmaa...'. ..& this was telecasted in news channel several times.
The basic thing is that once in power, these Ministers forget that they are to serve people...

I heard that Mr. Ramanatah Rai saying about Goonda Act. Can we consider this act of public goondaism by the minister comes under that? Or else we can think that ministers are coming from heaven and we have to pardon them.
