Kundapur: Ayyappa devotee killed as auto rickshaw topples

Kundapur, Dec 31: An auto rickshaw carrying passengers toppled early on the morning of Monday December 30 near Chittur and killed an Ayyappa devotee.

The deceased has been identified as Gururaj Acharya (33), resident of Tallur, and son of late Muttayya Acharya and Vaghdevi.

The incident happened when Acharya along with Uday, Basavaraj, Krishna, and Devraj (all Ayyapa devotees) had gone to offer puja at Kollur Temple. On the way back, the auto toppled and Gururaj suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to a hospital in Kundapur en route which he breathed his last.  Uday and Devaraj met with minor injuries. They were all supposed to leave for Sabarimala on Tuesday January 31.

Acharya got married to Saroja eight months back.

A case has been registered in Kollur police station.
