Kundapur, Jan 9: A college student reportedly attempted suicide by drinking petrol in the classroom when the girl with whom he was in love rejected him.

The incident occurred at Koteshwar First Grade College on Wednesday, January 8.

An academically bright student of first year BSc at the college was in love with his classmate.  However the girl was not interested. He gave her a two-page letter threatening to commit suicide if she refused him. She rejected him and did not respond to his letter either.

The student, who got upset, reportedly brought half a liter of petrol and drank it in the classroom.   student next to him pulled the bottle from his hands and threw it out.

A professor and the students rushed him to Koteshwar primary health center.  However, as there were no facilities for treating such cases, the doctors there advised them to take him to Kundapur taluk hospital. He is said to be recovering.

The Bhatkal-origin student was staying at his relative’s house in Kodi.

@ all comments mocking the boy pls understand , its agony to have failed relationship , it can very well possible that girl deserted boy. @ lydia lobo , kadri . its their age to fall in love and also right to choose what's right for them. Not only education, but getting into an early relationship like marriage can also be in a betterment of a girl. The above case girl may have her reasons , but its good that now a days girl fall into relationship very early rather than staying stagnant till hair turns grey.

Being a BSc.student, probably he might have thought to take her for a ride from the classroom filling gasoline in his belly. Better he try gasoline with gasoline engine instead of his belly,.. Simply wasted Petrol of 20KM ride.

It is the duty of parents to guide children during the teenage. Maybe some parents are not educated enough for this. Parents must be trained by NGOs on this matter. It is unfortunate that a bright student has lost life due to the infatuation.

Feigning suicide ! Why did he not swallow a match box too ?

Suppose he was dead, who will be charged for abetting suicide in this case ? The girl ?

I salute the girl ! She knew what is right at her age !

Parents are spending their precious fortune on the future on their children - no on foolishness like what this young man has done !
