Bantwal: Heap of trash at waste disposal unit catches fire

Bantwal, Jan 13: A heap of trash at Palike waste disposal unit caught fire on Saturday January 11 and created anxiety among local people.

The waste collected from Vitla shops and houses is being carried by Panchayat vehicle and dumped at the Thippe gundi prepared spending several lacs of rupees.

It is said that fire was found in the waste dump at about 4 am on Saturday January 11.  The waste kept for converting it into manure has burnt into ashes. The vicious fire has spread to the neighboring ground and threatened to burn four to five houses nearby.

The locals Rajesh Annamoole, Sharif Palike and Ilyas Palike have extinguished the fire with great difficulty.  Fire brigade personnel have also conducted operation.

The waste is being dumped here in order to prepare manure but no manure has been prepared here yet.  The stink of the waste is unbearable said the local people.
