Bhatkal, Jan 14:
Auto owners and drivers at Bhatkal and Murdeshwar protested against the hike in diesel and LPG prices on Monday January 13.

A memorandum was submitted to Bhatkal assistant commissioner Kurma Rao, addressed to the Prime Minister of India and the chief minister of Karnataka placing various demands like issual of BPL card to auto drivers, free health services, and free houses under Ashraya scheme for auto drivers.

During the protest they said that the increase in prices of fuel had put them in dire straits, especially as they have been running their autos by taking loans from banks. They said that if the government reduces tax on petrol and diesel, the prices will come down and they could provide better service to people.

The rally began from the public ‘Chabutra’, near old bus stand, passed by the main road, Shamshuddin Circle, and reached the assistant commissioner’s office.

Due to the strike, the general public had to suffer inconvenience.

President of Bhatkal Auto Rickshaw Union Venkatesh Naik, vice-president Mohammed Nayeem, honorary president Laxman Naik, general secretary Nagaraj Shetty, Murdeshwar Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ and Owners’ Union president Ishwar Naik, secretary Satish Naik, Suresh Shetty and Jayant Naik were present.

This "uncontrolled" price hike of auto LPG is draconian - first from 54.50 to 65.50 and again to 67.70 within a fortnight ? This is purely "Cartelisation" and shows ONCE AGAIN that Govt has no control on any matters , now in this country. Only a person can be harassed without limits, by the present Govt. All items, one by one, have scaled peaks looking at "Govt's Lost Priorities" ( look at Vegetables, Milk, Fruits , Pulses & Rice prices ). All UPA politicians are busy in their own "COUNTRY LOOT PROGRAM", giving ample opportunity to others to follow. Only common man is suffering, without limits. THIS UNWARRANTED LPG PRICE HIKE MUST BE REVERSED IMMEDIATELY.
