17 Bethany Sisters celebrate golden, silver jubilees

Media Release

Mangalore, Jan 15: Tuesday January 14 was an auspicious day mixed with gold and silver hues for the Bethany Sisters of Mangalore Province.

It was a day of rejoicing, a day of thanksgiving, a day of renewing their commitment to Jesus in a deeper way, as 12 Bethany Sisters (Sr Marie Lyta, Sr Florita, Sr Emerita, Sr Sabina, Sr Leona, Sr Nazarene, Sr Melwin, Sr Edmund, Sr Peregrine, Sr Chrysantha, Sr Hope and Sr Celine) recalled their fruitful golden years of Religious Consecration and five Bethany Sisters (Sr Mariola, Sr Ashwini, Sr Navaneetha, Sr Precilla D’Souza and Sr Vithalis Lobo) fondly remembered their silver years of commitment to the Lord.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore officiated at the Eucharist assisted by Fr Rohith D’Costa from St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, and Fr Melwyn, assistant parish priest of St Joseph the Worker Church, Vamanjoor.

During the Eucharist, he thanked the Lord for these 17 Bethany Sisters of Mangalore Province for their dedicated service in various places of Mangalore and Udupi dioceses. In his homily, he recalled God’s faithfulness to them; he also appreciated for their faithfulness to Him and called on them to continue to abide with Jesus the Vine. At the end he reassured the words of Yahweh, “Fear not, I am with you”.

After the Eucharistic celebration, Sr Mariette, the Provncial Superior along with her team greeted the Jubilarians with love and affection. Many Bethany Sisters and sisters of other congregations joined them in thanking God for their gifts to the Church. The day was indeed a memorable one.
