M'lore: National Gym Kulur to organize powerlifting championship

Mangalore, Jan 16: National gym, Kulur, Mangalore on completing its five years along with the Karnataka powerlifting and Dakshina Kannada Powerlifting Association are organising a State Benchpress and Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District powerlifting contest-2014 on January 18 and 19, in Veeresh Rao memorial stage Kulur, Mangalore.

State Powerlifting Association secretary, Satish Kumar Kudroli said "Powerlifting sports is one of the famous sport and in our Dakshina Kannada district powerlifting has lot of support from everyone. Day by day powerlifting is gaining lot of publicity. We are expecting more 200 competitors are going to take part in this event."

"Every year in International and Asia level, athletes grab lot of medals in powerlifting. And i am very happy to share this information. Dakshina Kannada has International and national level athletes, who have won Arjuna award, Eklavya award and many more."

Both men and women can participate in the contest.

A Sadananda Shetty, president of Karnataka state powerlifting association will be inaugurating the ceremony, Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava will preside over the function, Fr Herald D'Souza, Kulur church parish priest, Dayananda Shetty, Mangalore corporation member will be chief guests.

Devadas Kulur, silver medalist, world senior powerlifting, Sadashiva Salyan Payyott, Karnataka Rajyothsava award winner and Ramesh Shetty Dotamane, social worker will be honouring these for thier achievements.

Chethan Kulur, president of national gym, Tulasidas Kulur, Jayaram M, treasurer at Karnataka powerlifting association and V Krishnamurthy Rao, vice president, Karnataka powerlifting association were present during the press meet.
