Bantwal, Jan 23: A 60-year-old man died after he was knocked down by a speeding lorry at Annalike curve, in Bantwal on Tuesday January 22.

The deceased has been identified as Padhmanab Acharya, a resident of Bantwal, near Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Kalyana Mantapa. He was an electrician by profession.

The accident took place as Acharya was returning from Moodbidri at 9.15 am. As a result of the accident, the helmet was crushed and he suffered severe injuries on the face and head. He was rushed to the hospital by auto rickshaw with the help of the locals. However, he breathed his last on the way.

After the accident, traffic was disrupted on the Moodbidri-Bantwal highway for some time. The locals complained that the police did not arrive at the spot even after one and half hours after the accident took place. The body has been sent for post mortem at the government hospital in Bantwal.

The deceased is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. A case has been registered at Bantwal rural police station.
