Mangalore, Jan 23: The Department of Microbiology at Father Muller Medical College organised a three day National hands-on-workshop on Anaerobic Culture Techniques, 'An encounter with Anaerobes' here on Thursday January 23 at the Knowledge Centre auditorium, FMMC, Kankanady, Mangalore.
Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean of FMMC welcomed the guests and chief guest Dr M K Lalitha, past president of IAMM advisor, laboratory services inaugurated the ceremony.
Dr M K Lalitha in her speech thanked the organisers for the opportunity to share her experiences and she advised the attendees in her speech to accept any challenge in life.
Fr Rudolph Ravi D'Sa administrator at FMMC released the Anaerobic laboratory manual.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI in his presidential speech, said, "In United States, 40 millions are affected with this infection and among them around 90,000 face mortality. In developed countries, the infection rate is from 5 to 15% and in developing countries it is 10 to 32%. The cost of curing the infection is higher and the impact of this infection is also very high. Preventing the infection is the challenge for all of us."
This is a three day workshop, wherein each day will involve doctors and lecturers discussing different topics based on Anaerobes.
Dr B Rekha, organising chairman proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Beena Antony, organising secretary and others were present at the inaugural ceremony.
