Mangalore: Nava Chaitanya annual day celebrations held at KMC

Mangalore, Jan 28: The KMC Nava Chaitanya annual day celebrations were held at Sushrutha Hall at KMC Hospital Attavar on Republic Day.

There was a huge participation of the 'young stars' ranging from 60 to 85 years of age. They participated in all events from singing to acting and dance.

Dr Prabha Adhikari, geriatric head,was the lead the organisation committee. Dr Ragavendra Bhat, head of Medicine KMC, narrated his personal experience on Alzhiemer's afflicted people. He was all praise for Jerardin D'Souza, managing trustee, Spandhana Charitable Trust for creating awareness and starting the Mangalore Alzheimer's Association.

''Alzheimers has no cure, so it is paramount on how we endure this degenerative disease,'' said Jerardin D'souza. He emphasized  on the importance of care giving and training volunteers to specifically understand the Alzheimer affected people.

He explained that there are various types of dementia and 50 to 60 % suffer from Alzheimers Disease. Jerardin passed a book around and collected the contacts of all attendees. He invited all present to be volunteers of the Alzheimers association. Jerardin

D'Souza was all praise for Dr Prabha Adhikari, for inviting him for such a humane amd touching programme.

Participants from Abayashraya and other units of Chaitanya performed various cultural activities belying their age.

The whole gathering was vibrant with energy and the human spirit overcame all barriers of old age, sickness, and mental challenges . From 'Radha kyon na jale' by Dr Anusuya Salian To 'Lungi Dance ' were performed with full verve and zest. There was a 'baila session' at the conclusion were everyone danced.

Narmada, trained all the participants . Rehaman sang with his melodious voice. MSW social workers danced with merriment.

Dr Prabha Adhikari presented gifts to the inmates of Abayashraya. Zahid Hussain Baji and Kusuma  were present on the dais. B T Salian compered the programme.
