Congress observes Mahatma Gandhi death anniversary

Mangalore, Jan 30: Tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi by the District Congress Committee (DCC) on Thursday January 30 as they observed Martyr's Day on his 66th death anniversary at Gandhi park, Town hall, Mangalore.

"Today is the day where Mahatma Gandhi sacrificed his life for India. This day should be observed in a meaningful way. He took a bullet and sacrificed his life for us. Mahatma Gandhi is a true hero and a person who the generation has to follow. Mahatma Gandhi has done wonders for the nation. The reason he was taken away from us is unknown and he died for the country." said Ivan D’Souza.

Homage was paid to the Father of the Nation at his memorial and floral tributes were presented by Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim District president of the Congress party, KPCC general secretary Ivan D’Souza, Prabhakar Shriyan, Kripa Alva, member of Ladies Lions Club, Suresh Shetty, Divakar, Suresh Ballal and corporator Shashidhar Hegde.

Ibrahim Kodijal addressing the gathering said "We should remember today especially for the great personality Mahatma Gandhi  fought for the freedom of our country. 'Raghupathi Ragava Rajaram' is a prayer and a message which can be obtained from the Quran, Holy Bible as well as from the Bhagavad Gita. There fore, today we say this prayer as one family. God does not discriminate any one in the same way even Mahatma Gandhi never discriminated mor left any person behind. Mahatma Gandhi built and brought up the Congress party and today Congress is taking up many initiatives in all the fields."

Prabhakar Shriyan, Suresh Shetty, Divakar, Suresh Ballal and others were also present.

    ಗಾಂಧಿ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗೆ ಹಾರ ಹಾಕುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಬಾರದು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯ ರಾಮ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಕನಸನ್ನು ನನಸಾಗಿಸಿ ಕೇವಲ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಗ್ತಾ ಇದೆ ಹೊರತು ಅವರ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳನ್ನೂ ಯಾರೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಹೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ

    Do you mean to say the ones who try to erect the iron statue of the Iron Man Of India acquire an iron body.Is this not a game used to gain vote bank.

    CONgressmen have paid tribute to Gandhi by stopping prohibition and allowing cow slaughter....if Gandhi was alive, perhaps he would not allowed any CONgressman any where near him...

    Mr. Langoo,

    Gandhiji was also for non violence and communal harmony. We very well know, which govt supported it.
    Don't play double standards. If you are shut when Modi can erect an iron man's statue , then you must also shut when congress garlands gandhiji.

    Cow slaughter is a debatable issue, but not the only Issue!!!!!
