M'lore: ICYM initiates Cordel 'Kela Yaad' at Holy Cross Church

Mangalore, Feb 2: The Cordel 'Kela Yaad' 2014 was organized by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Cordel unit on Sunday February 2.

With the idea to fortify the tradition of old games, Cordel 'Kela Yaad' 2014 was initiated, wherein the parishioners of the Holy Cross Church, Cordel at Kulshekar participated and cherished the joy of this unique event.

The program began with a prayer song which was performed by playing the Konkani traditional instrument 'Gumta' by Valerian Dsouza and his team.

The chief guest for the event, A Sadanand Shetty the chairman of Sri Devi Groups of Institutes inaugurated Cordel 'Kela Yaad' 2014, and it was done by breaking the coconut to symbolize the customary way of the Konkani culture.
 
The inauguration was done in the presence of Parish Vicar, Fr Valerian Pinto; Assistant priests, Fr Rohan and Fr Vishal; Parish Vice president, Praveen Patro, Secretary, Michel Dsouza; ICYM President, Arun Pinto; Secretary, Seema Dsouza; Noel Dsouza, Lily Pais and other dignitaries that were present on the dais.

After the inauguration in his presidential address the sports enthusiastic A Sadanand Shetty said, “I still spend at least two hours every day to play tennis and I make sure that a portion of my income is contributed towards sports.”

“The instigation made by the Cordel parish is truly commendable as they are trying to keep the traditional games animated and alive in today’s society”, he added.

Presiding over the function the Parish Vicar Valerian Pinto said, “One of the cultural event in our Tulunadu is ‘Aatida Onji Dina’ and Cordel 'Kela Yaad' 2014 is similar to the event. It is a great event to sustain the culture and nurture the kinds of games our elders used to play.”

Completing his address, he wished good luck to the parishioners. ICYM Animator Sushil Noronha delivered the welcome speech whereas the event was hosted and the vote of thanks was rendered by Ancita.
