Kasargod: Lorry transporting sand illegally seized

Kasargod, Feb 4: Manjeshwar station police have seized a lorry for illegal transport of sand in the name of manure.

Though the team of driver and cleaner assaulted the revenue officials and fled with the lorry, it was seized with the help of police.

The incident has occurred on Monday, night at 10 pm near Manjeshwar check post.  Revenue staff K V Vinod(45) and P Shashi(45), injured in the assault have been admitted to the hospital.

When the lorry that was plying from Mangalore was inspected, the driver and the cleaner had said that they are transporting manure.  However when the revenue staff went to check it, the driver and the cleaner assaulted them and fled with the vehicle. When they were followed in the police jeep, they left the lorry and fled.

There were only three sacks of manure in the lorry and the remaining was sand.  Manjeshwar police have registered a case and are investigating.
