14-year-old girl from Manipur allegedly raped in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 8 (NDTV): A 14-year-old girl from Manipur was allegedly raped by her landlord's 18-year-old son in Delhi last night.

Police said the incident happened at Munirka in south Delhi at around 10.30 pm on Friday. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the minor was attacked when she was on her way to buy household items. The accused allegedly grabbed her in front of a pharmacy, took her to a vacant room nearby and raped her.

The girl has sustained injuries on her face and is undergoing medical tests and treatment at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

The assault triggered protest at Vasant Vihar police station in south Delhi with groups from the north-east and some other organisations raising slogans against the police.

The incident came on a day the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Manipur and slammed the Centre and the Delhi government for failing to provide security to people from the north-east.

Groups from the region have been agitating against the death of Nido Tania from Arunachal Pradesh, who died following an alleged hate attack in south Delhi last week.
