Kasargod, Feb 11: A fourth standard student, who was playing with some local boys, accidentally fell into a well and lost his life.

The tragedy occurred at Bayar Bolukatte near Paivalike in the district on the evening of Sunday February 9.

The unfortunate victim has been identified as Yousuf Salman (9), son of Abdulla Kunhi from Bayar. He was a student of the government higher secondary school at Bekoor.

While playing spiritedly with some boys of his age, Salman lost balance and fell into a 75 ft deep well. Two locals named Rashid and Safaan got down into the well in an effort to rescue the boy. Although they could retrieve the boy from the water, they got trapped inside the well, as they found it impossible to climb out.

The fire brigade at Uppala was summoned, and the fire personnel who rushed to the spot succeeded in bringing the rescuers out.

The boy, who was in a critical condition, was then rushed to a hospital in Mangalore, but he could not be saved.

Once it was bore-wells which took many lives. Now it is the open wells. We have heard many incidents like a young priest and just a few days before a person in Barebail (presumed to be murder) area were killed due to these open wells. As the pipe water is available easily the wells are left unattended. Few of them without a boundary wall. It is high time the public has to help each other in closing these wells or barricading.
Very sad to hear about this accident. Let Almighty give courage to the bereaved family members to overcome this shock

So sad that a young boy lost his life in a well even though his friends tried to help him to save him. May his soul rest in eternal peace and give console and comfort to the bereaved family and friends. I know this loss of this young guy is unbearable but just pray to God.
