Veteran journalist TV Venkitachalam dead


New Delhi, March 4 (IANS): Veteran journalist T. V. Venkitachalam, who spent nearly six decades in the profession, died here Tuesday after a brief illness.

Venkitachalam, 85, had begun his career as a journalist when he was 19. He served the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency for over three decades and was in active journalism till he was 79. He retired as editor-in-chief of National Herald till the paper, supported by the Congress party, folded up.

He represented PTI in Kuala Lumpur as its correspondent in the early eighties and also occupied the post of regional manager in PTI's Delhi office. He is survived by his journalist son T V Sriram.
