Mumbai, Jun 2: Filmmakers can never get enough of Mumbai.

The city is once again the inspiration for National Award winning filmmaker Madhusree Dutta who tries to capture the essence of those seven islands in her latest documentary film. Call it Bombay or Mumbai, it still has its siren song.

Seven Islands and a Metro is a documentary that explores Mumbai’s multiple identities. From stunt-women in Bollywood to the people on the street - their many voices are all heard in this film.

For National Award winning filmmaker Madhusree Dutta, making sense of the chaos of the metropolis was the challenge. "When you step out of the house and take a train to work, that's when many Bombays hit you. So getting those many bombays is not difficult," says Dutta.

"But putting it in one narrative, to find the method in the madness was the challenge as a filmmaker."  Shot over three monsoons in Mumbai, the documentary has a fluid feature film style, using the characters of writers Sadat Hasan Manto and Ismat Chugtai to explore the many spaces that the city hosts.

And Madhusree Dutta is keeping her fingers crossed for a commercial release.
