Puttur, Jun 14: Noted scribe and artist Rafiq Uppinangadi (36) passed away at his native house at Kadavinabagilu near Uppinangadi near here on Tuesday June 13 morning.  Rafiq was suffering from cancer for sometime now.

Rafiq was an alumnus of CAVA and was presently working for a daily at Mysore.  He was also the treasurer of Mysore District Journalists' Association.  He had secured a degree in  photo-journalism from Mysore varsity in 1990.  He had served as the assistant editor of "Andolana" daily and had also worked for 'Janavahini', 'Suryodaya' and 'Usha Kirana' dailies.

Rafiq was a good photographer too.  He had also written a book titled "Photography".  He was giving photography classes to the slum children of Mysore, free of cost. He was also a social activist and was involved in many programmes such as health awareness camps, educational programmes.

He had also made his entry into the literary field and had written his maiden novel "Ajjimada".  This novel was revolutionary novel dwelling on various issues prevalent in the Muslim community.  This novel had irked many of the Muslims.

Recently he had made his debut into the Kannada film industry too.   He was the assistant director of Kannada movies "Mungarina Minchu" and "Bhoomi Tayi Chocchala Maga'.  He was also a renowned cartoonist and had drawn cartoons for the cover page of the many books written by Mysore based writers and litterateurs.  His cartoons had adorned even the souvenirs and many books published for the use of literacy campaign by State Resource Centre.

He is survived by wife Gita and two children.
