Mangalore, Jun 23: A housewife from Kottar in a complaint filed with the senior police officials through her husband has complained that she was assaulted by Kavoor police.
Prema (27) of Kottar has left her house at Kottar on Tuesday June 20. But she did not come home thereafter. Now she has got admitted into a private hospital from where she told that on Tuesday she got into an autorickshaw. The rickshaw driver made her to drink alcohol and later asked her to get down from the rickshaw. But Prema insisted that she should be left from where she had got into the rickshaw.
At this rickshaw driver is said to have dropped her at Kavoor police station. Further she said that the police in the Kavoor station assaulted her physically and sent her home in the evening by route number 13 C bus.
"Having been assaulted by the police, I wanted to lodge a complaint with the Suratkal police in this regard. But when I went there, the police refused to register a case. Since I did not have enough money to pay for bus ticket, I came by walk to Panambur. When I reached Panambur Circle, the Kavoor police who were there on night duty, took me once again to Kavoor station on jeep. There they assaulted me once again and later admitted me to Remand Home at Vamanjoor. There I gave them my husband's police number who later came and admitted me to the hospital," said Prema.
However, the entire episode seems to be very confusing. Nothing is known about the rickshaw driver who made her to drink alcohol or no details are about as why did he give her alcohol.
On the other hand Kavoor police said that Prema has been suffering with depression for some time. It has been aggravated after her child died of falling into a water tank a month ago. They also said that she has the habit of leaving home suddenly and travelling by auto. Coupled with this she also takes alcohol. "So we took her to the station and warned her about her behaviour," said the police.
However, everything seems to be very fishy in this episode. No one can determine as who is right. But the senior police officials said to have assured about a detailed enquiry into the matter.
