Congress hits out at PM for asking leaders not to remark on rape cases

New Delhi, Jun 13 (Agencies): Congress on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks calling for a restrain from making statement always on incidents of rape and recalled that the BJP leader had earlier termed Delhi a rape capital.
"The Prime Minister advised to keep quite on the incidents of rape and not make statements all the time. This is the same Narendra Modi who had talked of girlfriend worth Rs 50 crore and called Delhi a rape capital. People of the country are surprised at how Modi has got enlightenment all of a sudden," Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmad told reporters.

The Congress leader was apparently referring to Modi's controversial tweet a few months back about the sweat equity row surrounding then Union minister Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar who is no more. "After jibe of Rs 50 crore girlfriend, hue & cry on rape incidents in non-BJP ruled states, now PM Modi says respect women and keep mum on rapes," Ahmad said on micro-blogging website Twitter.

Modi had asked political leaders not to carry out psychological analysis of rape and also to stay away from making statements on the same.

Replying to the President's motion in Lok Sabha, Modi had on Wednesday asked leaders to stay away from commenting on rape cases. "I appeal to our political leaders that we should not carry out psychological analysis of rape. Is it correct to make a statement always? While can't we just keep quiet. Respect and security for women should be the topmost priority of the entire people," he had said.

Although Modi commented many things about women\rape etc. during his campaign (to get votes by hook or crook), now he has realised he should not have said all those things to his opponents...!!
But I feel right now he is right to say these rape matters should not be a subject of discussions in public. Unnecessarily media is highlighting these sensitive issues just to sell their news to the public and Ministers want to become champions refering to these matters during their speeches.
I hope they will listen to our PM and let these matters be handled by the law officers without highlighting the cases.

It is SP Govt who failed to tackle rape incidents.

in Hubli, Mumbai, Pune also rapes are reported in past few days. Why is it in only non-BJP ruled states Rapes are happening? Is is because of free anna bhagya or the failure of law & order?

One should give a thought on this.

Dinesha anna, it seems that your political memory is poor OR you are ively using it. It is not only UP, every where the rapes are taking place. Just 2 days ago rape was reported from Ahmedabad. We know that hundreds of rapes are taking place but how many are reported ????. Only UP rapes are highlighted, since the media is in the hands of govts machinery.

if the MPs found guilty, I would appreciate Modi not to support anybody and let them pay for the crime they did. And on asking ministers to keep mum, it's right than keep giving some stupid statements. As our previous govt didn't speak nor did anythign to stop all these mess , what ever so called rapes, crimes. Now it's time to act, not to comment. I am sure Modi will have his own strategy to get what ever he wants done. Let's just wait and watch. But these Congis, bloody you don't have any moral power to speak about govt nor Modi as people asked you to shut and sit. Please...

If this congress govt. would have taken any stringent action against rapist in the last 10 years, we would not have seen the present rape trend. Congress shed crocodile tears in all these year. If PM is asking leaders to take action against the crime...let us see the outcome in coming days.
Congress forgot that people rejected them because of their dirty politics and corruption.

He did not say don't comment on rape.

Mr. Frustrated Shakeel Ahmed has no other issues to attack the Govt. Let them become constructive opposition for the smooth functioning of the Govt and betterment of India.

"Achhe Din Aanewale hain" should't be a mere rhetoric, Govt should work towards it make it happen.
We don't want to live in fools paradise type of "achhe din" by suppressing the facts or covering of incidents like rape, murder or any such grave crimes.
However media also should play responsible role and every effort taken seriously in right direction should also be appreciated.

Once again the Congress spokespersons are up to no good by misconstruing Mr. Modi's statement concerning rape. If the spokespersons lack adequate knowledge of language, then it is best that they shut their mouths. They don't seem to have recognized the fact that it is their loose mouthed comments that brought them ruination at the last elections. Indians have smartened up and have begun to realise the deceit periodically being spread by the Congress.
