Media Release
Mangaluru, Nov 3: Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) has announced the eighth edition of Makers' Fete, its annual festival of creativity and discovery, to be held on November 15, at the CFAL Campus, Akashbhavan, Mangaluru. The festival brings together students, schools, colleges and young professionals for a day of hands-on challenges in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
First held in 2019, Makers' Fete has grown into a gathering of hundreds of young makers, tinkerers and STEM enthusiasts. This year's programme is built around four core contests, supported by 15 other contests and 10 featured demonstrations and exhibits.

While Makers' Fete is a competitive festival, the organisers intend it to offer participants something more than a contest. Its challenges invite participants to design, build, test and present their ideas, bringing classroom concepts into practice and rewarding curiosity, creativity and problem-solving.
What Sets Makers’ Fete Apart
1. Learning by Making
As students move towards higher education and competitive examinations, they are increasingly expected to apply what they know to unfamiliar problems. Makers' Fete offers a setting where theoretical knowledge becomes real-world creation, through hands-on challenges that call for imagination, skill and persistence.
2. An Open Platform for Young Makers
Makers' Fete is open to anyone with a spark of curiosity, whether a seasoned tinkerer, a first-time builder or a STEM enthusiast. With contests spanning robotics, engineering, coding, puzzles and craft, participants can choose challenges that match their interests and test their abilities in new ways.
3. Building a Community of Makers
The festival also gives participants an opportunity to learn from demonstrations and exhibits presented by CFAL's science clubs and research centre and by visiting university teams, and to meet peers who share their curiosity.
Core Contests
At the heart of Makers’ Fete 2026 are four core contests that challenge participants to build, innovate, explain and compete:
- Maker Challenge: Participants design, build and demonstrate an original project that showcases creativity, engineering skills and the spirit of making.
- Innovation Challenge: Participants identify a real-world problem and propose an original, practical solution. Shortlisted teams showcase working innovations and compete for awards.
- Nexus Quest (Breakthrough Challenge): Participants make a complex science or mathematics idea simple, engaging and memorable through a creative explanation or presentation.
- Bot Soccer: Participants build, control and compete with their robots in an action-packed arena challenge.

Eight editions in, the best ideas at Makers' Fete still start with ‘what if?’.
