China launches campaign against online piracy

Beijing, June 13 (IANS): The Chinese government has launched a campaign against rampant online piracy, targeting websites which offer unauthorised content from traditional media, media reported Friday.

The campaign, starting from June to November, was jointly launched by the National Copyright Administration, the State Internet Information Office, the ministry of industry and information technology and public security, Xinhua reported.

"The move aims to promote cooperation between online and traditional media institutions and better protect copyright by standardizing the use of copyright owners' content online," said a statement issued by the departments Thursday.

This is China's 10th annual campaign of its kind since 2005.
