Five killed by lightning in Bengal


Kolkata, July 13 (IANS): At least five people were killed and two others seriously injured after they were struck by lightning in West Bengal's Burdwan district Sunday, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police S.M.H. Meerza, all the victims were working in a field when they were hit by lightning.

The injured have been admitted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, the wife of one of the victims tried to commit suicide by consuming poison following the death of her husband.

"She is currently undergoing treatment," said Meerza.
