Mangalore: Salesman accidentally falls into pond, drowns

Mangalore, Jul 18: A local salesman who used to sell herbal medicine door-to-door died after drowning in a pond at Pallipadi Poyyemajalu of Badagabellore grama panchayat here.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Mascarenhas (65) hailing from Farangipete. He was staying at Loretto Padav. 


He had come to Pallipadi for distributing the medicine and is assumed to have died by drowning when he lost his balance while getting down into the pond to wash his hands and legs.

The locals who saw his dead body while walking at Pallipadi informed others and people gathered at the spot. Bantwal station police who were informed of the incident arrived to the spot and with the co-operation of local people took the dead body to Bantwal Government Hospital. A postmortem was done there.

Mascarenhas is well-known in several villages in the area. He leaves behind a daughter and a son.
