Mangalore, Jul 23: "The groupism in the Congress party has also seeped into the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). Recently, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde was sent to Hyderabad for 15 days of training. Hegde left after handing over power to joint commissioner Gokul Nayak. Later, one group, after pressurizing the state government, appointed Prasanna Kumar as the new commissioner on July 17. Immediately, another group pressurizing the district in-charge minister pushed newly-appointed commissioner Kumar to go on leave,” said Premananda Shetty, leader of opposition in the MCC.
He was addressing a press meet at the district BJP office on Wednesday July 23.
Shetty said that due to groupism, there is no commissioner and no development. “Two meetings were conducted in the absence of the MCC commissioner. When the Mayor was questioned about this, he brushed it off. Hence, as the opposition, we demand an answer from the Mayor as to why the newly-appointed commissioner went on leave without handing over charge,” he added.
On this occasion, former MLA Jayaram Shetty, Sathish Prabhu, Roopa D Bangera, and Rajendra Kumar were present.
