Mangalore, Jul 25: Dakshina Kannada District Football Association will conduct the 18th Independence Cup football tournament at Nehru maidan football ground here from July 30 to August 15 for boys and girls of higher primary, high school, PU college, degree and professional college categories.
Mangalore City Corporation mayor Mahabala Maarla will be inaugurating the tournament on Wednesday July 30 at 10 am at Nehru maidan.
Addressing the gathering in Mangalore Press Club on Friday July 25, D M Aslam, president of DKSFA said, "Because of the media we are getting lot of publicity. Already 212 teams have registered and it is increased when compared to last year as it were 194 teams only."
"We do not have a proper ground to conduct football tournament as many cultural programmes take place in Nehru maidan. The ground is also in the heart of the city and everyone wants to make use of the it" he added.
Vijaya Suvarna, State Football Asssociation member, Hussain Bolar, secretary, Anil P V, treasurer and others were also present during the press conference.
