Kundapur, Jul 27: Situation in Neralakatte near Vandse in the taluk turned tense for sometime on Friday July 25 after some people stopped a youth who was found accompanying a girl in the pillion of his motor bike.
Those who stopped the motor bike wanted to know why he was escorting a girl belonging to a community that is different from his own.
A person named Taufeeq, it is gathered, was moving on Neralakatte road in his motor bike when he saw a girl, who was his classmate a few years back, waiting for a bus at Ajri Cross to reach her home in Alur. After the two exchanged pleasantries, the girl requested him to drop her home. The youth agreed, but was intercepted by a gang of youths as soon as he reached Neralakatte.
Although both the biker and the pillion rider tried to convince the interceptors that they knew each other and had no evil intentions, the youngsters were unwilling to listen.
Police sub-inspector Nasir Hussain and other police personnel, whose efforts at easing the tension failed, resorted to light lathi charge and dispersed the people.
The policemen took the boy and the girl to the police station, made inquiries and got themselves satisfied about the bonafide intentions of the duo. They called the parents of the girl to the station and allowed her to go with them.
