Mangalore: First year BE classes inaugurated at SJEC

Mangalore, Aug 2: St Joseph Engineering College held the inaugural ceremony of the first year BE classes on Friday August 1 at 9:30 in the college auditorium. The solemn ceremony began with a prayer song led by the college choir.

Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal, SJEC welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. The chief guest Dr Philomena D’Souza, Director, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. Fr Ajith Menezes, Director in-charge presided over the function while Dr Joseph Gonsalvis principal, Fr Rohith D’Costa, assistant director and Dr Rio D’Souza vice principal were the guests of honour. 


Dr Philomena D’Souza in her inaugural speech said, "Life is a journey and on that move we pass through several stages of ups and downs, joys and sorrows." She urged the students to carry the light of knowledge for the welfare of society. She also advised students to be humble and courageous in facing the challenges of life.

Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal in his message welcomed all the first year BE students to the SJEC family and spoke about the facilities available in the campus. He highlighted the achievements of SJEC in placements, academics and sports. He expressed his joy in getting the 
coveted accreditation for four Under Graduate BE programmes (CSE, ECE, EEE and ME) by NBA, New Delhi.

In his presidential address, Director in-charge, Fr Ajith Menezes motivated the students by advising them to stay focused, think matured and to make the best use of the opportunities. He urged the students to be passionate and innovative in their work and to get into the habit of living in the present. He concluded by advising the students to fulfill their parents' dream.

Dr Rajesh P C, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and convener of the inaugural program, proposed the vote of thanks, while Rashmi Halemane, Assistant Professor in the Department of ECE compered.

Students were accompanied by their parents for the inaugural function. The ceremony concluded with the College Anthem.
