Police fire tear gas on protesters in Islamabad

Islamabad, Aug 31 (IANS): Police in the Pakistani capital city fired tear gas shells to disperse thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters as they were marching towards the prime minister's house late Saturday.

Police started shelling on the marchers when they were just metres away from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's house, Xinhua quoted witnesses as saying.

Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan, chief of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and PAT Tahir ul Qadri, asked their supporters to march on the PM house to stage a sit-in there to press for the resignation of Nawaz Sharif.
