Mumbai, Oct 4: Maharastra Konkan Association held Merit Awards programme at St Jude Church Hall at Jerimeri on Sunday, Sep 28 evening. In the programme presided by St Jude Church Jerimeri Chief Priest Fr Lancy Pinto, children were felicitated by giving away Merit awards.

A healthy society is possible by well educated society. So children should not be deprived of education. There should be no discrimination with regard to education. Our country can progress only if the children are educated. Associations and organizations should encourage education considering the necessity, said Fr Lancy Pinto in his presidential address.

Association office bearers, former president Walter D' Souza Kalmadi, Secretary Vincent Castelino, Treasurer Gratian and John Veigas were present on the dais. Students Glenita Fernandes, Remita Miranda, Ansten Coelho, Lester Castelino, Royston Pereira, Olivia Pereira, Roselin Crasta and others were handed over Certificates and Cash awards. Roshni Crasta was felicitated by awarding annual scholarship.

Joy Pereira who had joined Konkani classes in 1995 has secured doctorate. Fr Lancy presented a Memento and congratulated him. Association president Leo Fernandes welcomed and compered the programme. Joseph D' Souza read the letter of appreciation.

Vincent Castelino proposed Vote of thanks. Jerry Bondel, Levin Fernandes, Glenita Fernandes and others provided music and entertained the audience.
